Yes, it is Friday, But Sunday is ‘acommin!

In the mean-time…

Luther said that the Lord’s Prayer was the first martyr. Well…

Second would be the creed! For some odd reason we almost (and maybe some folks do) think that we get points for just saying the words.

There is a reason we have our confirmation kinds memorize the meanings of each petition and each article. They go together, if you had not noticed…

I did not… no one told me… it was not until I started teaching the catechism did I notice.

You see it is no accident… and really Luther did not invent this… he just put it together in nice way.. but

When we see that the Introduction of the Lord’s Prayer is inviting us to think of God as OUR FATHER, and He “tenderly invites us… to believe… and ask…as out true Father” as the TRUE provider of what? What is the meaning of the FIRST ARTICLE of the CREED? That He (our Father in Heaven) “Richly and daily provides me with…” and then there is that extensive list!

So the WHY of why we pray the Lord’s Prayer all the time is that Jesus said to. he said “When you pray, say….”. But when we do we are to think and remember the meanings of each petition connected with that articles of the Creed.

If you have forgotten, go back and commit them to memory again. There are actually devotionals that are all for praying the Catechism. Luther did it himself. No, not because it was HIS! He meant praying the Creed and Lord’s Prayer.

These are rich and full things that are not tiresome and dull to do. They cover everything in this life and prepare us for the next.

So take the time. And take your time and think about what each part means as we pray them.

Keep students and teachers in your prayers as they go back for another year. May truth and wisdom overcome the folly and lies of the world and the devil. Remember also all those who travel for those one last before type trips. Like your pastor! Thanks.

Luther on the Lord’s Prayer:

“You should know that I do not want you to recite all these words (the meanings of each petition) in your prayer. That would make it nothing but idle chatter and pratter. Rather do I want your heart to be stirred and guided concerning the thoughts which ought to be comprehended in the Lord’s Prayer. These thoughts may be expressed, if your heart is rightly warmed and inclined toward prayer, in many different ways and with more words or fewer”
