One of the most important elements in personal security is the decision to Refuse To Be A Victim.  In the 1990's the Women of the NRA developed a seminar to help people deal with criminal predators of many types.  As a community service, this seminar, now extensively updated, is being presented for the community by St. Timothy Lutheran Church.

The seminar covers topics like…

The Psychology of criminal Predators
Mental Preparedness to Avoid Becoming a Victim
On-Line and Identity Security
Physical Security
Home Security
Automobile Security
Out-of-Town Travel Security.

While many types of crime have decreased in recent years, crimes of theft and violence still cause great pain and loss for too many people in our society. The types of crime have also changed to include cyber-theft, crimes against seniors, and crime on college campuses. The first step that individuals can take to prevent crime is avoidance, and to help people be pro-active in their personal safety the Refuse To Be A Victim® seminars were created in 1993 by the Women of the NRA and have been updated since to include such topics as

  • Automobile Security
  • Workplace Safety
  • Technological Security
  • Travel Security
  • Security for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

During this 4-hour seminar, you will learn how important it is to Refuse To Be A Victim and will learn

  • How to minimize the risk of victimization
  • How to create a personal safety plan, before it is needed
  • An array of personal safety strategies
  • (This is a crime prevention course, not a firearms training course.)

As a community service, Saint Timothy Lutheran church is sponsoring the Refuse To Be A Victim® crime prevention seminar, providing the seminar at a very reasonable cost – $5 for the seminar textbook that is yours to keep.

The seminar presenter is Rev. Edward Bryant, an experienced crime prevention instructor. Besides being the pastor of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Ed holds several safety instructor certifications, including the NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® instructor certification, several NRA Instructor Certifications, Illinois State Police CCL certification, and and is a USCCA Affiliate Instructor. He is also an NRA Training Counselor responsible for training NRA instructors.

We at St. Timothy hope that this will be a blessing to our community so that they can stay safe from those who would do them harm, steal their identities, or otherwise make them victims.  As a Christian church, we have a true concern for the effects of sin in the lives of people and what can be done to relieve our society of its consequences.
