Trip to the Creation Museum

What if someone told you that you were stupid?

What if you were told that every day? What if for years, you had to listen to a barrage of insults from all around you that you were stupid? We all know what would happen. Even the smartest of people might start to have doubts and believe what they were told. Continued exposure to that could wear someone down.

Our faith can be like that. We all know that the world around us continues to mock what the Bible teaches. But after years and years of hearing the popular culture bashing the Bible, it could be easy to doubt some of the truths that the world around us doesn’t understand.

One of the Bible’s teachings that is constantly under attack is Creation; the Bible is attacked right at the very first verse. Some may say this isn’t important, but the teachings of the Creation and mankind’s fall into sin, tell us why we need a Savior.

In October, several of us took a trip to Answers in Genesis’ Creation Museum. Most of us left the church Friday night after work and drove down to Petersburg, KY. The weary travelers pulled into the hotel in the wee hours of the morning, and had to be at the museum bright and early at 8:30 the following morning. It was a short night.

The Museum is smack dab in the middle of… nowhere. It appears to be the only attraction around and was built to be pretty central in the US.

We all had a great time, kids and adults alike. It started with an amazing show in the Planetarium. The size of the universe and the power needed to create it is astounding. Yet, God created it with a single command. “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11:3.

Next, we moved to displays about the Garden of Eden and how God created all of the animals (including Dinosaurs) and man. For a time, everything was perfect. Man was without sin and lived harmoniously with all of God’s creation.

From there, we moved through the rest of the beginning of Genesis. We experienced representations of the fall of man into sin, the first promise of a Savior, Cain and Able, God’s judgment upon mankind with the world wide flood and God’s mercy in sparing Noah and his family, and finally, the spreading out of population through the confusion at the Tower of Babel. It was presented in a very powerful, clear and visual way.

All would be for naught without Christ coming to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. At the end of the tour, we were reminded of the Gospel message of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection.

We thank God for the wonderful trip we had, the fun fellowship and the safe return. If you ever have a chance to visit the museum, I would recommend it.
